Berman Media Sales Blog

Here's to the Sales Warriors!

Yesterday, I asked one of my clients how her ad sales were going. "Business sucks," she replied. Most of us couldn't agree more. "I'm sick of it," she complained. Yep, that's the general feeling out there. So, what are you doing to survive and thrive? I recommend finding a mantra. Faced with any difficulty, personal or professional, my mantra is "I'm a warrior, not a victim."

To remind me, I even have a picture on my desk of an awesome beautiful female warrior. Along with a picture of my father, who taught me most everything I know about business and sales, I have constant companions to give me a pep talk. Dig deep, past the upset, get unstuck, and take action, they remind me. Remember our USC slogan: Fight on! From whom do you take inspiration? What is your mantra? Make them visible, right at your computer. Here's a picture of my grandmother from the 1930's with a straw hat, bag-lady outfit, dirt on her face and a smile as she hosts her Depression party! She used newspaper as a tablecloth and Twinkies for dessert. Talk about making lemonade out of lemons. I remember her sitting all day long pasting labels on cans, listening to the radio and singing, at the putty factory she and my grandfather owned. As kids we would get two cents for every can we filled with putty, and at the end of the day we went to the store to buy a toy. Yep, she taught all of us to "take the good."

How are you handling the emotional downer and staying active and positive in the game? Please leave a comment.

Dig deep. Fight on! And share your story with us. Best of selling, Helen
